So 20 to 30 years go by, even if the appreciation of the houses matches inflation, he would've done 10 times better than someone did nothing.I done that, I live rent free, and rent covers a good part of my monthly expenses.

Generally boils down if you are looking to live 'rent free' (e.g. 50% vacancy in Duplex) or you 'pay' market rent and income covers any mtg and hopefully some free cash flow that can be used to pay down faster (or in your pocket :).Oren

It just seems completely artificial to me, fueled by out-of-state transplants going to work in Plano, and low rates.All that said, I am still very new at this and I am probably missing various opportunities in DFW.
