So, you could beat up the seller on price/terms for having to buy a death scene house and then rent it out for a while, change the color of the house, different landscaping, etc. changes the perceived character of the house from persons driving and walking by.

First i would think about what it will take cost and labor to strip/patch/sand,stain and finish the floors stripper and sanding pads will add up unless its an exotic wood, I personaly would simply lay new hardwood or laminate flooring down you can find all styles sizes colors types of wood and most are prefinished and are extremly easy to instiall, some are glueless and nailess.

If you want to get a little showy, paint one or two "accent" walls, just don't get crazy, and nothing dark (although once I did do a faux black leather look on a single wall for effect, and to experiment before trying in MY home!).
