Remember that your parents and grandparents grew up in a different world than you did and  their beliefs may not be current. 

I grew up in Lee’s Summit, MO ( a Suburb of KC).

What are other ways people grew the number of rentals they had? 

I grew up on that property as a child, I'm planning to renovate,hold and rent out the cabin and barn.

I go to school in the same town that I grew up in and it is the same town that a local investor has offered me to take over his portfolio of 20 properties for 1.5mil.

I grew up fishing the Willamette and Columbia rivers.

From 2000-2005 we went from a peace time military to full combat operations in two different countries and due to that congress approved increases in military manning and the Marine Corps grew from 183k to 202k.

Our business grew 5X when we stopped doing financing. 

As such, we're expanding our search range to include more of Pierce county, Spokane (though this is very new concept I've been playing with), and out-of-state where we grew up in Central and South Florida.I just read a great report from FannieMae on Multi Family investing in Austin, TX. 

I actually grew up in Mascoutah and own a couple of rentals there.
