On some older properties where perhaps you have one water meter for 2-3-4 units or one gas meter for 2-3-4 units, or units that share hot water, something like that the owner might pay. 

When I shared the success story that's all that was - maintenance of course you have to factor in but on the raw deal over 4 figures in net cash flow is very good (at least to me).

Can you share a bit more? 

Then later as you grow older and no longer want to share your space you can just stop renting the other bedroom.

We can't risk a client sending an unlicensed or non-qualified contractor into the property as we share liability for that.
