@Makenzi Capezza I suggest taking a spray bottle filled with water and lightly spraying a section of the wall and see if there are any small strips of paper that change color with the water or roll up in your fingers easily.

If it is weeds growing in gravel or mulch, just spray them (you can make a mix with vinegar and soap) or dump boiling water over them. 

Look at what the carpet and pads looked like 30 years ago or 50 years ago and now you just installed LVT or berber with a thin pad. you might need to put some baffling (such as insulation) in the ceiling or spray foam.
