A great recommendation for investors and meeting other like minded people is a Brokerage called Caliber Real Estate.  

I have my license but don't do much general brokerage.

I'm also in the Tampa Bay area and work with a wholesaling brokerage, NetWorth Realty.

My only advice on this is find someone who is very active in the market and has their finger on the pulse of the market.Whether that is an investor, or a brokerage either can be great.  

Also if your looking to invest in emerging markets that you see opportunity for growth you can buy shares here in the US through a brokerage.

We have a brokerage which we have intentionally kept small to this point in time.  

As long as you can resist temptation, I would suggest this...On-line courses are good, but can't replace the classroom because a good instructor can teach you the business as well as guide you toward passing the test.A number of Brokerages will put on cost effective, license training at their offices.Just understand that while there, they will market to you to join them.Good luck...
