I believe that starting out, you would need to find an investor lawyer and accountant to help you set up the legal entities in both countries, then research your market, find financing, build a team, and so on.

@Marysue ConnellyI am not a lawyer, and this isn't legal advice, yada yada yada ...Colorado landlord-tenant law does not obligate you to renew a tenant's lease. 

My sister and father are lawyers and have fought their taxes all the way through the process and have gotten very little relief from the tax board.

The case law gets interpreted by the lawyers and judges in opposing ways.

Any suggestions for a good real estate lawyer in Alabama would be appreciated.This person has a very large legal judgement against him.  

There will be lawsuits....you may win the lawsuit, but if you have to pay expensive lawyers and spend time in Texas on the defense in a hotel, with meals and all other expenses...it will not be fun.One thing you have to think about is if you are an accredited investor or hang out with plenty of accredited investors. 

I'd get a lawyer involved.
