Practically all over-range vents have the option of venting outside or venting inside with the addition of a charcoal filter.

I've seen a lot of burnt out junction boxes where the joists/studs were charcoaled from days of old.

The underside of the shelf would be even with the underside of the cabinet.What about a charcoal filter range hood?
