Anyone can live anywhere they want if they have the money, and sometimes houses are bought and then rented out without much background checking on the people moving in.

Return:Finishing the basement and adding bedrooms can add significant value, especially if your local market places a premium on additional living space.

I live in Phoenix AZ, where we take our pool safety very seriously, as kids die every year in pools because it's warm and they swim much of the year. 

I live in Seaford, NY and have been searching for areas outside of LI to do my next deal.

Hopefully, not an expensive tenant or Fair Housing lawsuit.100% of what @Travis Biziorek states is true, but he left out a key fact - he lived in the Detroit area when he started investing here, so was able to self-manage and meet everyone he had to hire face-to-face.

Do these folks have temporary  overage for places to live?

As a CPA who lives and breathes real estate taxation, I've noticed something interesting that I want to share with the BiggerPockets community.

Even if the sponsor lacking knowledge and experience can raise capital through syndication, their life will become a living nightmare of lawsuits, hostile social media posts, public ridicule, accusations, legal threats.  

The lot works and ok with living in one unit, just trying to find people that have executed them in Los Angeles City.
