We did get a few things in for free like backsplash install but, overall, it's still a good many evenings and weekends worth of work we got stuck doingThe electrician pulled a permit for the whole house!

Of course, I'll have to be pulling out the faux glass backsplash I did not too long after then, lol, but that's because the faux backsplashes only come in colors long after they turned mainstream.

Granite tiles -- I've never minded that look if it's well done -- it can look especially clean / contemporary if you use the same tile for the backsplash.

Let me tell you lots of my rentals got pretty back splashes for little more than the price of mastic and a few hours of work.   

I intended to put granite countertops, backsplash, ceramic tile as needed (which was the kitchen and main bath) and finish the hardwood floors hidden under the carpet.
