I am in the process of setting up a call answering service and it looks like if I forward my google voice calls to pat live, the calls are not going through, but if I port my # out of google voice I cannot port it back in and I may be stuck paying a ton of money to keep the number.

As others have stated already, if you buy right (i.e. don't overleverage; I have voiced my opinion on this topic recently here on BP in a few posts) and the building is in good shape and tenants are ok with low vacancies then there is no reason for such a "turnkey" property to not cash flow.I would even go ahead and say: why and how would a "non-turnkey" cash flow any better?

It all looks like the same SSID to guests no matter which unit they stay in on property.Guest communication via Email, SMS, Airbnb, HomeAway/VRBO messaging runs through a google account and google voice relay that forwards messages to various Slack channels to alert whomever is available and they can take action.

Right now I direct all interest to a google voice number that answers most questions people have.Would be curious about a scanner for checks, doing each one at a time via smart phone is so tedious I think it takes as long to go to the bank.

Thank you for all of the replies, there are some great points.I personally use google voice number and do use text as way to communicate with some of the tenants.
