Remove the painting from his SOW and get 3-4 bids from residential painters to do this instead, and remove anything else that he’s giving you problems with - that should free up his time to work on your the other projects.

In short, I have all the time in the world to schedule bids from plumbers, painters, etc. without using a GC when I get to something I don't know how to do.
