Exactly what Bill stated, you need to talk to the local/state official and find out what are acceptable alternatives.

I would ask for documentation that it is an officially trained and certified medical dog.

My official job is part time. 

It is a good idea to:Spur them into action to redeem; and/orLegally gain official possession of the property in case there might ever be some dispute about whether you were physically in exclusive and continuous possession.
