I have considered replacing the beautiful solid doors and trim and ripping out the pocket doors, but am hoping I don't have to since it will not only be expensive and disruptive but also detract from the historic nature of the house.

BUT... in 10 years, we may see a complete disruption in this kind of work as cars and trucks become self-autonomous.HOWEVER, today, this is a totally different story. Here in NYC, 42nd Street, Manhattan used to be a Skid Row with lots of Video Porn shops, maybe even low income housing, etc.Same with a lot of other neighborhoods everywhere in NYC, especially in Bed-Stuy.What was even worse was that there was a Purge in Mental Institutions back in the 60s or earlier, I believe.

@Ben Simon that is a great question and the answer may be counter intuitive. We find that when there is a major disruption like in 08’ we had more people moving into the city from the SouthShore who are willing to commute to save money on rent. The gateway cities tend to maintain the amount of people in them and subsidized housing does play a roll here as well.Cheers to your success!

Which greatly disrupted the neighborhood.I was told I would let someone move into the property then "Their nephew would want to attend the local school system".If I couldn't rent for the money I wanted I would rent "Section 8" to get more money, than the going market rate.I had a complaint that by me fixing my property up, the City is now on their back about their's.Then all of a sudden I started getting calls from the the local city, saying the house is zoned for 2 units and you have 3 units listed.
