However as Texas only allows a HELOC on your Primary Residence, I don’t want to lose this facility if I move to a new place (and I want to comply with the rules!).

There is a web site that lists all the section 8 housing, so people might be also be looking there. 

Some sites are not able to provide back a credit score, because they don't know how you will handle the data.
