I think that's the root of the question - - Where do the complaints and maintenance requests go?

Then you will find roots in the sewer line .  

They do rise to the occasion and appreciate that I am taking action, not just ignoring the problem.I think monitoring the problem more closely to get to the root cause and involving the tenants in that effort will pay off.Reduction of waste in the first place would be a good goal for not only your bottom line but for the environment.Passing the garbage bill onto the tenants may be introducing some ill will, especially since you just did a rent raise.

@Scott Weaner, depending on the company doing the imaging, it could range from wanting to replace the pipe at a cost of $3500-$5000 to just a cleaning to root removal which will be a few hundred $$.There was one company in our neck of with woods which has bright trucks (PM me for name if you want), who tried to replace the pipe and use strong sales tactics.

The roofer can hopefully identify the root cause. 

Apparently this was rooted in the days of ice boxes, when the "iceman" had a key to the back door and wasn't just a nickname for a mob hitman.Much better, right?
