Unless you specifically want to live in that condo two years from now, you should go for a duplex or SFR.

We just acquired a duplex that (at closing) was supposed to need about $4K in mold remediation.

Maybe you could compromise by finding a property that you can live in comfortably but also has rental potential (like a duplex).

Being a duplex that sounds pretty decent the odds are in the sellers favor they'd go pending ASAP.

They seem mostly suited for off-site wall segments production and I have to wonder about the economic viability in real-world projects. 

You say you're finishing out the basement, is there any chance to divide this property into an up down duplex?
