A good strategy if, short term, you have income to spare that frees you up to zoom out to the 15 year timeframe and not focus on the month to month and year to year. 

I could say more but this is getting kind of long so I will spare giving you anymore.  

If it wasn't laid right on a compacted bed with rebar or remesh with stress joints then it's not worth saving.

As I began evaluating housing options for when my lease ends in August, I slowly fell into an internet rabbit hole that took me from looking at renting a single room, to buying a house and renting the spare room(s), to debating a live-in duplex/triplex investment, all in the name of getting my monthly housing expenses down (and maybe even turned into a monthly housing income?).

I'll spare you the details.I never signed up for a 100k-200k remodel, just put in new windows and maybe paint each unit as the tenants move out.  

If you plan on having to share the kitchen then to me that's a bit of a deterrent, I don't know how the shared space market is within vacation rentals personally, I do know from my own research that the majority of the market isn't a shared space and most of the bookings that come through airbnb are with places that are not a shared space, this directly contradicts airbnb's message of being a platform that helps homeowners rent out spare bedrooms as I believe from the information I've found it's something like 70% of their bookings are for an entire unit.

This is my start, hopefully make a few bucks a month and have some friends living with me, and as they leave for different reasons continue to rent out spare bedrooms.
