My properties are in New Orleans so, unfortunately, I know ALL about the insanely high rates for named storm coverage (tropical storms and hurricanes) with property insurance.

It is much easier to make those choices before you have children or other responsibilities, but it also may not be worth the hardship if you can have most of what you want but just need to put up with some weather and compromise by planning some tropical vacations or something.

I thought I would resuscitate the budget contingency for Mother Nature thread after the passing of tropical storm Arthur this past Saturday (2014.07.05).In my last update, we had just finished our "snowiest" winter in over a decade and, at its end, our snow removal costs were up 90% year-over-year.   

You passed the first hurdle by moving here during the hurricane season and not having a tropical storm mess up your move.

Then these gurus will pack up their bags and sit on their millions on a tropical island...right?
