I had a few hiccups (the house had a leak and I had to get the ceiling replaced for the kitchen and so on) I made it work.

Also, the water could have entered from other areas and traveled along a beam and exited the kitchen ceiling.

Aim for the sky... you will reach the ceiling.... 

The units all have tri-paint jobs with ceiling paint, a nice wall color and super-white glossy trim on everything else. 

Tiling your tub surrounds to the ceiling not only looks nicer, but also helps waterproof the area better, and will likely never need replaced (versus vinyl surround which last about 3 yrs before tenants start cracking them, in my experiences).

From clogged drains and leaky faucets to ceiling fan installation, fences, painting up to small kitchen and bath remodels there isn't much we can't do.

An attorney said it would be expensive to be right so the developer built a single story home with the highest ceilings possible. 

Most important is lot size, and basement  ceiling height.  

If you paid $500k and houses are appreciating $50k per year, and you think there's little to no ceiling, then maybe it makes sense to spent $15k out of pocket to keep it.

A ceiling in one of the bedrooms need repaired as its "sinking" in.
