I tile all bathtub surrounds, put a nice tile backsplash in the kitchen, get stainless steel appliances on sale...anything to make my house stand out.I suppose a house with fire damage might give me pause, only because I've never rehabbed one.

I had a contractor estimate our kitchen to renovate and priced us $40-50k..so I decided to do it myself with my husband.Instead of changing the kitchen cabinets coz they look like we're in the 80's we painted them all white.The backsplash is the problem..I thought I could handle it but the material didn't stick that long in the wall..everyday I would see pieces falling apart!

It took 2 years for the two of us to do a complete rehab, but my wife now has a new 23x13 kitchen that has 22x7ft of window(s) as a back-splash over looking the Lake.Unless you're ocean side you can't beat the tranquility of a Lakehouse.Do it!!!
