Hi Jordan, I'm not an expert by no means, but I purchased my first Michigan rental property in Hazel Park.

Update on what happened with me wiring $$$ to escrow co. who didn't want to put wiring instructions on letter head.Well it turned out that the Bank account for the Escrow co, was only 15 mi from house, they verified account(because turns out I also had an account with that bank) and the bank accepted my cashiers check and gave me a reciept.

I live in WA and am looking at MI, IL, KY and FL.  

I've owned property in Texas and Michigan (btw, I've been to your beautiful city and have family in Maine).During the 2008 crash, I liquidated, did some other stuff, then went to law school. 

The mayor recently mentioned he would like for rent control to apply to newer buildings toohttp://abc7.com/politics/la-mayor-calls-on-ca-to-m...I could see an opportunity if one could buy a multi family and rent at least one unit on airbnb.

We have nine duplexes in Michigan, and I figure $100 for maintenance and $100 for capex per month.
