Facebook marketplace, Roomster, roomiematch, padmapper, roommates, roomi, your school's alumni network, and if you have a good nose for sniffing out scams, Craigslist (still probably the biggest resource, just rife with scammers). 

About the only way I've successfully done it is by prying them up with a screwdriver or chisel and pulling them out with a needle nose, pliers, or channel lock.

As an example, each LVP stair nose which serves as the cap installed on the top edge of the stairs was $25-50 without installation costs.
