I also saw somewhere that some social media sites like Facebook and Twitter use an intermediary redirect from their HTTPS site to HTTP to your HTTP site so that you would see the referral info and they would essentially get credit for sending you the traffic.

They all have squeeze pages, ability to post your new listing to facebook or twitter, etc etc... seems like they are all pretty similar.
