This is more of a curiosity question rather than a question of your decision. 

The Landlord has a deposit that is contractually held for the sole purpose of paying accrued debts upon termination.

You'll get a far better response using your name, and in the case of no name or return, the curiosity factor will often overcome the gatekeeper mentality :-)Hope that helps.
