This is primarily due to those born in the 90’s delaying marriage and children, increasing construction costs, and the fear that we could experience a real estate bubble like 12 years ago.  

I went back and forth with seller and buyer and then made the marriage!

Let’s just say the soundproofing wasn’t great and it’s never fun to be on tiptoes in your own home - that’s a great recipe for an unhappy marriage or a quick sale of your “investment”.

Partnering is also a solution, but you have to think through partnerships carefully as they are kind of like a marriage.

Why not simply end the marriage with the buyer and pay the bid amount for the repair less what the title agent is holding - and be done. 

For example: I am self-employed and  my wife is a homemaker and we have some kiddos, so our individual tax situations prior to marriage allowed for different financing scenarios than once we were married, and then again once we started having kiddos.  

The property had been sitting vacant for nearly a month and the stress it was causing in our marriage wasn’t worth it, so we decided to sell the house and cut our losses.
