It's not impossible but can be done.

It is impossible for an odor to go through water in a trap.

Without meeting the appraiser and discussing the condition of your property and all of the comps it is absolutely impossible to get a good deal on a short sale any more.

Based on the limited information from the initial post (the key piece missing being the CAUSE of the moisture) it's impossible to say if renters insurance would cover this situation.
