I would then use the money from the DST to purchase and pay the mortgage on another cabin in the future when prices come back to earth and I won't have to put it on a rental program.

We have done section 8 in a couple of markets and been happy with it, but the Tampa Housing Authority has been very hard to get a ahold of and I can't seem to figure out how to even enroll my homes in the program.

Unfortunately many lenders will see this as a red flag and may not take the risk to lend you the rest of the money even if you use stated income program or bank statement program but those are for self employed borrowers who have active income from their business but write off to many expenses that when filling their taxes their net income is really low or sometimes negative.
