I was thinking more along the lines of a 'travel expense' write-off from the business, ultimately treating my unit as a rent/travel expense/hotel which is why I was getting confused.

I had been focusing on long term rentals but ran a hotel for 5 years and thought I might enjoy short term rentals more.

You could do a short term rental and start collecting that per diem as opposed to people staying in hotels.

Buy or refund with receipts the roach bait hotels.

We are considering picking up our 3rd STR via a LO as a way to get a property quickly vs. waiting to accumuluate the 20% down payment required to finance.My questions is, since I would not be the owner on the deed, would I have issues with obtaining a business license to operate a STR and pay the hotel/motel and sales taxes or would I need to involve the owner of the property?

Or for a large family, you have 2 for the girls and 2 for the boys.Basically, unless you're running a hotel, all you ever really need are 2 bathrooms.

Asking because my son has an attic apartment in his house which is a stone’s throw from a hotel, a 3 building campus for a tech employer and they are building a mega 7-11 type store in front of the hotel...walk to all three.

so 4  times a year flying to the event renting hotels etc .so add in another easy 10k.. and from what I saw you had folks at the top of their game and you had some that were trying to scale up so the ones that were at the top it appeared to me to be more like social for them and they could help others. 

. ;-)   I'm just jealous because I think Amazon will clog up the hotels and the metro and I won't be able to find any Lime Bikes and Scooters to ride around Crystal City and Pentagon City.
