A hammer , a paint brush and a tool belt would go a long way at an early age .Chores and having to earn money is also a great tool but as @Joshua Feit says you can't force them or instill great values

Big materials are easy (Cabinets, Counters, toilets, etc.) but small materials like screws, glue, caulk, paint brushes, rollers, plastic, are hard to estimate and put into a category.

You have to consider that in your decision. ok..1 more last caveat..all the cleaning supplies, lawnmower, trimmer, paint, brushes, ladders etc etc - I already own.

When I go to an REI meeting I will hand out gift cards, discount cards, I bought 1,000 paint brushes and wrote my youtube url on them to hand out...  

I'm not afraid to pick up a paintbrush or fix a toilet, but I was in AL and it was worth the 10%  I paid.

Don't swing a hammer or a paintbrush just to save $20/hour, because as an investor you should be making decisions that will return 10 - 100 x that amount. 

Take a small craft paintbrush and cover the spot only and it looks good as new especially since it is up high. 

I'm the painter (and I use neutral paint) and I can be standing there showing a rental just freshly painted with a still wet paint brush in my hand and at least 50 percent of applicants will ask if they can paint.2.
