I don't know much about intellectual property laws - I have no intellectual property at the moment.

I know the pointy headed intellectuals will argue that a lease purchase obligates the tenant to purchase the property at within the agreed to time frame.

I'm not going to disagree with any of the above, but your wife seems to be coming at this from the emotional side of things not the intellectual/learning side. 

The only way to grow intellectually is listening to ideas that don't match your existing world view.
