@Ben Kirchner hi, I just wanted to see if you had any luck with this? I'm considering purchasing a lake house outside of Durham to use as an AirBNB, and I don't want to manage it myself. Thanks!

Thank you @Shawn Holsapple . Most of my potential locations are east coast and Midwest based, so this would make sense for me.

Thank you all for the fast responses!

@Shawn Holsapple yes I am a Boilermaker, but we will put our differences aside haha. Thanks for the links I will start reading/listening.

@Keri Browne happy to be back in Maryland, thanks for the welcome.

@Paul Timmins thanks for the list. What do you mean by "you don't have to own a property to control it"?

Hi @Chris Adams

I can sympathize with the 23-year-old's situation, because I just graduated from Purdue last year in engineering with no credit. My assumption is that he is working for Biomet, Zimmer, or DePuy in Warsaw. I have plenty of friends who have worked for these companies, and in general they take responsible, successful graduates, and in your situation you will have nothing to worry about. Just wanted to provide the opinion of someone in a similar situation.

Hi everyone!

My name is Zach Holmes, and I just joined BiggerPockets. I have zero experience with real estate other than being a renter.

A little about me: I'm a recent Purdue University graduate who moved to South Baltimore for a full-time job. I am a chemical engineer for a specialty chemicals company (behind the scenes chemicals). I've lived in Maryland, St. Louis, Houston, Iowa, Indiana, and Buenos Aires, Argentina. For fun I enjoy playing sports, snowboarding, shooting pool, and going out with friends. I am a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.

I joined the site with an initial focus of educating myself. I've already started posting some of my questions, because I am starting from scratch. I believe I would like to get into buy-and-hold investing in areas with a lot of turnover. I say this mainly because this is what I am most familiar with, but I'm sure I will find my niche through research on this site.

Looking forward to becoming more involved in the community,

Zach

Hi all,

I am very new to this site and the real estate world. I graduated college a year ago, and I have started saving some money, and I am considering using real estate as an on-the-side investment opportunity. However, I am in a unique situation where I will be rotating every 18-24 months to a new city for the next 5-6 years, and currently live in South Baltimore. This leads me to the following questions:

Is there a recommended type of real estate investing for someone moving around? Buy-and-hold seems like the route I would go, because while out-of-state I could use a property manager.

Is it possible to use the same "team" (attorney, CPA, etc.) across state lines?

What additional risks are associated with out-of-state investing, and how long must you live in a multi-family unit to be considered "owner-occupied"?

Thank you for reading this, and I look forward to becoming more engaged with this site!
