Aloha! I’m Yosselyn and Im 28 years old. I own a small restaurant in Hawaii and business has been really good. I recently read The Latte Factor (if you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it!) and my newest goal is to try to purchase the small building where I rent my restaurant space or something similar to it. It has 14 rental spaces. My building is not for sale so I wanted to make an off market offer. I don’t know where to begin! If you have any advice, books, podcasts that can help me learn how to accomplish my goal that would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance 🙂

@Joshua Herald congratulations on your success and your family. I know times must have been tough at some points, but you thrived and made it out alive. Best of luck!

@Minuit Spence I see that nobody has mentioned it yet, but have you considered joining the military? It’s not for everyone and I know it’s not real estate related, but it could definitely help you out with your financial situation. It’s a steady pay with benefits for your family. You can do an enlistment while paying off debt and fixing your credit score. On top of that, it’s an honorable deed to our country. I served 5 years in the Marine Corps and it was the best decision I ever made. Now I work for the government and I get paid to go to school. It opens so many doors for your future. Just my $.02.

Good luck!

I’m about to get REAL:

After I got out of the military I became a stay at home mom. Completely dependent on my husband at the time. He got physical with me and I left with my 2 babies with no money and no where to go. I had to put on my big girl panties on and figure it out. I will never allow myself to be in that position again. I want to make the money. I want to call the shots. I want to provide everything for my kids and never be so dependent on anyone else ever again. I want my kids to know that I got us.

That’s my why.

@Charles Soper thanks man I’ve tried! I live in Hawaii and the only thing I can afford is a condo lol. Duplexes and triplexes are close to $1million if not more. The GI Bill is not considered income so it doesn’t help at all when it comes to getting a loan. I work for the government so I don’t get paid much. Since it’s so expensive here, I just want to invest on the mainland.

@Walter Aaron Poling thanks! I’m passionate about real estate. I’ve been studying and going to meetups for years now, I just need to get my foot in the door. I figured one of these options could get me in the door and help me the get experience before I invest my own money.

If you didn’t have to pay for your own education and wanted to get started in multifamily investing, would you go for real estate attorney or real estate agent?

I’m utilizing my GI Bill and working full time, so all the money I receive from the GI Bill goes straight into savings and my work income is used for rent, bills, etc. After I graduate with my bachelors I’ll still have time leftover in my GI Bill and I want to max it out. If you’re not familiar with the GI Bill, you pretty much get paid to go to school and the military pays your tuition. So I’ll graduate debt free. My end goal is multifamily investing, but I don’t have multifamily investing money right now. I want to continue going to school so I can continue to get paid and save up to invest. Might as well go to school for something beneficial to my end goal. Which option do you think would benefit me most in this business? Real estate attorney or real estate agent? Any advice is appreciated!
