I found it fell a bit flat for the expectations I had. He had some thought-provoking ideas. But I had a really hard time with him seeming to belittle his educated dad for a good chunk of the book. It didnt seem like he wanted to address much of what he learned that was positive from his educated dad. I would have like to see more of that.

For all the hype, I was expecting more out of it. But nonetheless,  I'm glad I read it.

I'm still in the learning stages here. I would love to hear some stories of people in the midst of their first few deals.

For some talking points: What's your strategy? What drew you to it? What prompted you to take action? How long did you educate yourself before you got involved in the market?

Looking forward to seeing what everyone has to say!

@David Sisson She's less of a numbers person than me, but still very competent with understanding math. That's less of the problem. Right now its more that we don't have the resources (time and money) to do it quite yet, and thinking about it is a constant source of stress.

I'm glad you mentioned your student loans. We both have them, mine being significantly larger than hers. We want to have a family one day, be financially independent, help fund our future children's college (if they choose to go), and retire without the financial worries that we already have. I am just not sure there is a way for us to make all of this happen relying solely on our salaries.

And on a side note, it's nice to see a fellow Rhode Islander on here.

@Mindy Jensen That's good to hear! Keep me posted on how that progresses.

I went ahead and requested all of the bigger pockets books at my local library here. Unfortunately, since they 'were self published and did not have any professional reviews' they were not willing to purchase them.

Anyone else have this issue with their local library?

Our REI strategy is still something we are working on. With the way things are now for us financially and time wise with work and school, we won't be acting on anything for a year at the very least.

I'm taking this time now to figure out what the best niches and strategies are to put us where we want to be eventually. Convincing her of this avenue is merely the first of many steps.

Welcome! there's always a lot to learn here.

It also might be worth mentioning Bellevue as well. Franklin tends to be the "family suburb" from what I can tell, and there's still a ton of development going on there right now.

Some of the places I'm noticing right now are in and around all of the colleges (that's where I spend most of my time). The music row and edgehill areas between Belmont and Vanderbilt are really popular for the college/grad school/ med school crowds, Likewise, in and around West End and Hillsboro Villiage is quickly changing.

Midtown and the Gulch are really popular for the young professional crowd as well. East Nashville is a very hot place to be right now, and many spots still have a good way to go.

I hope that's helpful.
