Hello Janek,

I am actually based out of Ottawa myself.

I am not currently in Ottawa right now because of the election campaign, but, I plan on returning to the city once the election is over.

Have you tried OREIO? I connected with them and they seem like good people to work with.

William

@Roy N. Thank you for this very detailed answer.

I was just doing some browsing on line and saw the following property here:

http://www.remax.ca/nb/fredericton-real-estate/na-...

For this property, would you think it could rent it according to the 1% rule? This house is close to the University, so, perhaps it could be rented out to students.

Do you know of any turnkey companies in the maritimes and are you involved in such an operation yourself?

Thanks again.

@Chris Clothier Thanks for the quick response! Would a Canadian have to set up an LLC or some other holding company in order to invest with you?

@Roy N.

Would you have any further information on how to invest in Maritime properties? Say, if I was looking to purchase a student rental?

Thanks Roy.

@Chris Clothier

Hello Chris,

My name is William. I am based out of Ottawa, Ontario in Canada.

I recently ordered your real estate investor starter kit and watched a number of your videos online. There is a lot of great information in there.

I have been looking into real estate recently but find the real estate market here to be overvalued/too expensive especially in Toronto. I suspect many other Canadian real estate investors feel the same way. For this reason, I have casted a wide net and came across your company on Biggerpockets.com.

I am curious as to whether yourself or your company has any plans to hold any workshops/ info sessions in either Toronto or Ottawa? I feel there could be some interest up here in US real estate.

Also, in your experience, what is the major barrier for foreign investors in the US real estate market?

Thank you.

Post: How to invest in RE without losing many thousands of dollars

Hello,

I have recently started connecting with real estate investors and heard some horror stories.

While they do not recommend against investing in real estate, it sounded like their experience included a lot of difficulty. For example, this one real estate investor I spoke to spoke of a time when he was scammed of tens of thousands of dollars and had to go to court. Another example he gave was of a tenant who attempted to sue him.

Many investors I hear about seem to have gone through other serious trials and tribulations.

I was wondering whether there is anyone out there who has had a relatively smoother ride in their investing journey?

I am not necessarily expecting to get a free pass, but, if there is a way to make the journey less painful, I am open to ideas.

Thanks.

Thanks @Mike D'Arrigo for your response. Are you able to recommend a few reputable turnkey companies in the US? I have heard of Memphis Invest and they seem to be pretty good. If you know of others that would be great.

Thank you all for your responses.

@Ali Boone

 I am curious as to what your experience was like with turnkey investment companies and which ones are the best ones out there? What kinds of international contracts did you manage?

Thanks.

@Thomas Lorini

 Thank you Thomas for that information! I wasn't too sure about Hamilton because I heard some bad things about it ... ie; poverty and high unemployment rates. However, I will take a deeper look at it. I did actually crunch some numbers on duplexes in Hamilton and the numbers did seem to make sense.

@Roy N

Thanks for that information Roy! Those numbers do look pretty good. My only concern may be capital appreciation though because the economy is generally weaker in the Maritimes. How were you able to overcome this concern?

@Account Closed

 Thank you both for your input. I have indeed done some analysis myself of duplex properties and it would seem that the math is much better for multifamily units than they would be for any other option. I would be interested in the reasons for not getting a duplex? and what makes them harder to manage? If I were to hire a property manager to deal with the property, would it be easier that way? Thanks!
