@Kurt Michaelson We share something else in common: Hurricane Harvey. When I get home we need to connect. I was a commander on ground with TF 179 supporting Jefferson and parts of Orange county in late 2017.

Thanks @Cassi Justiz, I will get on meetups. I keep seeing it mentioned.

I am amazed at how many have already messaged me or offered to meetup, I will let you all know when I am back (and have spent some time with the family before starting my new venture of course).

Thank you all for the warm welcome! @Rhett Tullis I will definitely be attending when I return. I need to find someone who does wholesaling because I am now being told it is not legal in OK. It's not my end goal but it would sure help me get started.

Hello Alejandro,

I am a newbie as well and the book that gave me the best overall view to jump in was "How to Invest In Real Estate" by Dorkin&Turner (the founder and VP of this site). You can find it both on this site or on Amazon; look for a black background with blue and white title letters. It may seem cheesy since its from this site but I am genuinely glad I started there.

Another benefit of this book is that for each thing you are interested in or have further questions about it normally has a few further reading recommendations.

Happy learning!

-Will

Hello,

My name is William McGuire and I live with my wife and son in Guthrie, Oklahoma. I am a full time Title 32 (in uniformed service) Military Technician with the Oklahoma Army National Guard and am jumping into real estate investing as a way to 1.) Build long term wealth I can pass on to my children and 2.) have secondary income to live and retire on.

I am currently out of the country for work but will be back soon and have been using my time away to education myself on real estate. I am going to be starting with wholesaling to learn and build some capital. My wife and I want to start putting offers on our first rental properties in the next 12-18 months while continuing wholesaling. We plan to use a buy&hold strategy with single family and small multifamily properties.

My #1 goal for the first 6 months is to network and educate myself on our local market. If you have a group meet or would just like to meet for lunch (starting this summer) please let me know. I look forward to meeting and being a part of the community!

-Will

I second @James Albertson; please keep posting. I am out of the country for work at the moment but would love to start attending when I return.
