Hi Lance,

Congrats! I ended up going with Premier property group. I can tell you that their mentorship program is amazing and has helped me so much.  They definitely earn their cut! I literally could not have gotten started without my mentor’s assistance. I’m still quite behind in where I was expecting to be due to the pandemic. I had to put everything on hold for awhile. I started out at Berkshire Hathaway and did not care for it much. PPG is very thorough and has offered wonderful support. If you need anything or have a question, you can just throw it out on one of the Google groups and your question will likely be answered within minutes. I don’t have much to compare it to, since I’m fairly new still, but I wouldn’t hesitate to go with them.  I actually recently realized that an agent who helped me buy my first house a few years ago, who has decades of experience, is now with them after being with a different agency for many years. So that probably says something.  If I can answer further questions, let me know. Good luck to you.

Hi Cory,

Thank you for the response. I’m a very successful short-term vacay property manager and have been at it about six years. I handle nearly every aspect of the business.
Although I'm no expert on city codes and construction requirements, I feel my area of knowledge, in terms of RE, is seeing the potential in short-term rental opportunities, either with an entire property or ADU potential within a property. Otherwise, I have a strong customer service background in a variety of fields over the past couple of decades. I'm much more interested in good mentoring and training than the usual perks and benefits all the firms list to bring in new brokers. I am approaching this as one would in choosing a good school and not so much racing for that first commission check..although experiencing both early on would be great, of course!

I’m not sure if I’ve answered your question but I do get where you are coming from.

Thanks!

Any suggestions for finding a mentor/principal broker in the Portland Metro area? I’m looking for guidance and education over who offers highest commission, etc. at this point. I just want to learn and get off to a good start.

I’m open to suggestions of specific agencies or out-of-the-box suggestions to get started.  I have a flexible job that is carrying me, so I want to focus on learning and exploring at this point.

Not sure if this question is allowed here but thought I would give it a try!

I’m in the Portland Oregon metro area and just passed the RE exam and ready to find a principal broker. I have another flexible job at the moment so I have a low pressure situation in terms of finances. My main concern is finding a good mentor.  Any specific agencies stand out?  Or anyone have suggestions of alternative routes to the normal path most new brokers take to find a mentor? I’m not quite sure if that last question makes sense but I’m just looking for the best start to this new path and open to ideas or suggestions. Thanks!

Oh I didn’t realize you had to pay for training? This is the first I’ve heard of this. Good to know though!

Hey thanks for the reply! It’s my understanding that pro schools is now OnlineEd... but I will look into them and see if maybe they are comparable. And to be honest, I’m not really sure what I’m looking for in a training program since this is all new to me! Can you share with me why you liked their program?   or perhaps when I should be looking for based on your experience?

Hello! I  Live in Oregon city and I’m in the process of searching for an online course to obtain my real estate license and from there, of course, finding the right path to pursue training/mentorship.

Can anyone suggest a good online course option for the RE license? And from there, any suggestions as to which agency to approach for training?  It appears that nearly every agency has a program and I’m trying to find one that is really top notch and supportive.
