Post: Depreciation Recapture in 2021 or 2022?

Hey, BP!  I looked through the threads, but I need some expert advice.  We are selling one of our rental properties, and we'll have some recapture.  If I know that my overall income will be quite a bit more in 2022 because of some non-real estate projects, doesn't it make sense for me to make sure that we close this rental by the end of 2021 so that everything is taxed at a much lower overall tax level?  Thanks!

@Michael Plaks Is it safe to say that if you are selling a rental property this year and not doing a 1031, and you know your overall income will increase in 2022, then it would make sense to sell before the end of 2021 and take the tax consequences at your lower overall income rate?

@Jonathan Klemm We are actually looking to exit the IL market entirely and focus on the Southeast.

Thank you!  I'm familiar with Joe from my past work as an agent in the area.  I appreciate the responses.

@Justin Hoggatt Let's do it! I lived in Nashville/Brentwood for a couple years so TN also has a soft spot in my heart. Looking forward to connecting with you both.
