Thanks, John! I certainly don't think it's impossible, and I understand how to contend with things like high property tax and the pro-tenant rules. What I'm curious to hear thoughts from other investors on is how they think Illinois' pension deficit is going to affect their investments. I assume that the state is eventually going to have to shift the burden to the taxpayers - what's that going to do to investments when it happens? How do you mitigate it?

Here's an article that lays out the predicament a bit.

In addition to the high property tax and tenant-friendly laws, I've been hesitant about investing in Illinois because of the state's pension deficit and how they're eventually going to have to address it. Any thoughts? How are pro-Illinois investors weighing that?

Good evening!

I come in search of rental property insurance providers. Anybody have someone they'd recommend?

Thanks!

Hey everybody!

Thanks for reaching out! Long story, short- I couldn’t really get anyone in Cincinnati to take me seriously enough to get anywhere, so I moved on. And everything worked out! We’re closing on our first duplex in Milwaukee tomorrow, and we’re looking to do another in Wisconsin or Michigan in the next 6 months.

Thanks again, everybody!

Thanks @Dawn Anastasi! That looks like it could be worthwhile! I also found AASEW's position paper regarding the ordinance on their site; that was worth the read and provided me an ever so small bit of relief. So, thanks again!

@Dan Barli how do you know they're good contacts absent a recommendation?

BUMP - Hey Everybody! A buddy and I are looking to start investing in rentals in Milwaukee and are looking for lawyerly advice regarding Milwaukee county's new ordinance that requires owners to not exclude section 8 renters from renting. We both happen to work for a federal agency that prohibits us from doing so to avoid conflicts of interest and we're curious how it would apply to us. Anyone got a lawyer they wouldn't mind recommending?

Much appreciated!

Wayne

That's just a hard water issue. Are you sure someone didn't unplug the water softener? Once the water softener is plugged back in, just pour a couple of capfuls of vinegar in the bowl, let it sit a few hours and then you should be golden.

@Account Closed I'm still pretty green, but I must be doing something wrong if you're seeing cash flow in Oak Park.
