The walls have been knocked down between the kitchen and living room and all the parquet flooring and cupboards have been removed.

This weeks task is to clear the debris, fix the ceiling and prepare the floors for tiling.

Hello all!

So the time has come!  It has been MONTHS since I started the process in acquiring my first property and have come across text book difficulties such as the tenant not willing to move out (this unit comes from a deceased estate and the son of the deceased mother refused to leave).

Long story short and a few months later I managed to get the keys.

I love renovation shows and thought I would document this entire process as I know there are others who would be interested in seeing the transformation.

Renovation overview:

  • Knock down the wall between kitchen and lounge
  • Tile throughout the flat
  • Repaint the walls, ceilings and skirting
  • Install new kitchen cupboards, stove, hob and geyser
  • Raise the ceiling in the bathroom
  • Retile the bathroom

I'm looking forward to posting update videos!

Please feel free to ask questions and I will gladly answer to the best of my ability.

It is portable. The flat is a small 46m2 and having an island which is portable means the tenant will be able to move it around to create a larger space.

Thanks!

Hey BP!

So I have always been a fan of the farmhouse / cottage look, and I have decided that for my first apartment renovation, to create somewhat of a a farmhouse feel.

This is a wooden workbench that I bought and have just painted and made it look sharper.

The top still needs two more coats of sealant, which will make it quite glossy - the colour is "Traditional Oak"

The sides I painted with a "Sky Grey" colour.

I was absolutely blown away at the thousands upon thousands of colour choices that one has, but was relieved when I finally managed to match my tile colour with a wall and cabnet paint.

I am pretty excited to see how this beautiful kitchen island will fit into the overall design, and am really chuffed as to how this has come out.

Update 1:

  • My tiles have finally been delivered. I went for a light grey colour called Acapulco. However in this product photo it looks more beige.

Things are progressing.

@Stephen Chittenden Because this is my first property there are going to be a lot of learning experiences and things that people mention that I have not even thought of. So thank you for bringing up those points. I'll be sure to keep you updated with the progress.
