Welcome Mark - be sure to set your BS meter to high as I'm sure you'll be contacted by a # of scammers.

I'm not an immigration expert but think I have more experience in the matter than most as my wife is from Kenya - if you come with that kind of money you may get in easier than most....1st thing you should research is a good immigration attorney before you do anything else.  My experience in dealing with the USCIS is they treat all non citizens like sh x t and like you're a criminal.  You have no rights until you have a green card or gain citizenship.  Research that part first if you haven't already.  I could recommend a good one in KC but you'd want an atty local where you plan to relocate.

Best of luck.  You can get going with that kind of capital but of course all things being relative - you wont be able to buy much in the more popular larger metros --- IE Dallas, NYC, LA etc - but you could probably own half the county in smaller communities to everything in between.

Have patience with the USCIS - they hire spiteful people lacking in brain cells who think you have no rights sprinkled in with the occasional bigot.  Be prepared to document, document, document and document again where you got your money you are bringing with you and I'd be prepared for the occasional insult or innuendo the money is not legit.

thanks a lot for the advice. Yeah I need to contact one as soon as we decide where we will want to live. What do you think about financing? Is it true I won't be able to finance? That would change the plans a bit.

If you are tethered to a city-specific job and have flexibility, you may want to factor the investment climate of a location into your equation.  If you are looking for cashflow, look in the middle parts of the country (although you may in fact be bored after moving from BsAs!).  You can find good cash flow deals on the coasts, but you'd want to focus more on fix&flips in the expensive coastal markets.  Denver is a hot market, but you can still find deals in surrounding areas within driving distance.  As for Florida, I imagine it's much more affordable.

BsAs es muy linda!  Where in the city do you live?  I spent time in Recoleta, where prices were surprisingly affordable.

Thanks! Actually, real estate here is valued in dollars so we won't have any problems with exchange rates. The deals need to be in the same state so we can manage the properties better. Anyways, I'm still considering using a management company for just a small % of each unit rent, may be worth it.

We live in Belgrano! Pretty close to Recoleta. It is a nice country but we got tired of it! Prices are really low for tourists. But keep in mind a regular employee earns on average no more than 1000 dollars. Luckily, my family owns some businesses but still it's rough living here.

Where are you looking in particular? There are quite a bit of Argentinian Investors in South Florida to my knowledge, but the market is quite competitive for small multi family deals.

Thanks, Dustin! Yes have always loved USA and we have decided to finally go live there.

I was thinking on buying multiple unit complexes and rent them, following a buy and hold strategy. Improving their cash flow for a few years, then selling them at higher prices. It would be good to leverage the amount of money, I dont know how big of a loan can we get. But with 1m approximately I guess we could finance up to 5m? With that we could get quite a bit of nice multi unit complex deals.

 Thanks for the advice, Mindy!
We really liked colorado, specially Denver or Florida to live.

Regarding investing I'm lost regarding where to. My plan would be to invest in several apartments that can be rented to provide cashflow (2 options: 1)Use the whole amount to buy several low cost apartments that can be rented so my parents can live with the cashflow 2)Ask for a loan and buy more apartments than option 1, also living with the cashflow.) I want my parents to live as passively as possible.

Using this amount of cash is a good opportunity also to grow much more the cash we are investing, I am also really interested in real estate and can't stop reading so it would be nice for me to manage the apartments and learn.

Right now I am reading "The ABCs of Real Estate Investing" by Ken McElroy.

Hey! How are you? Today I was discussing with my family about inmigrating from Argentina to United States. We are a family of 4, my 60year old dad, 49 year old mom, 12 year old brother and 20 year old me.

We got tired of living here in Argentina. We want to look for a better place in the states. Here, we have 3 big properties that would yield 800k dollars, plus the cars and everything we dont use we would have like 1m to start over.

With that I was suggesting my family of buying several different apartments there cash, or taking a loan with 20% upfront cash to buy a good number of apartments that would cashflow for passive income. With that passive income rent something for ourselves and start over other type of businesses there. Do you think something like this is possible?

Thanks for the advice,

Mark

Hey guys and girls! How are you?

My name is Mark.

I'm a 20 year old computer science college dropout. The main reason for dropping out is that I wanted to start a business as soon as possible. I was spending most of the time on my classes reading on my kindle about business. And although college in Argentina is free, it's not free on time. I had at least 5 more years to get my degree (Computer science degree in Argentina = B.S. + M.S. in USA = 6+ years)

I just started reading about real estate and I find it really interesting. I have found the forum thanks to a post in the fastlane forum (J.Scott, Steve Olafson, etc). My goal is to master RE and be able to live off it. I have read biggerpocket's beginners guide ebook and found wholesaling and flipping interesting. I will start reading all the recommended blog posts.

What I find hard is adapting everything to Argentina's system and starting out with just $2000 dollars.

My ultimate goal in RE is to build an empire :) as a developer maybe.

This month I started working doing copywriting on upwork. I'm not earning a lot but I'm proud to have reached the 100% job success in just my first month.

I'm looking forward to learn a lot from you and contribute with what I can.

Thanks for reading,

Mark!
