Post: Rich Dad Poor Dad/Legacy Education Worth It?

Thanks for all this advice. I'll surely message you @Simon Ingram. I am also checking out @Ben Leybovich website. We don't have money to pay for his services, though. We did already spend money on the education from Rich Dad and networked with other learners to gain more education.

We do not regret the education because the education and the confidence in knowing that we "know" everything we could study allowed us to then play cash flow games and network to develop a new mindset which eventually led us to having confidence to do our first "small deal" which now has us eager to do more.

Surely, I appreciate these new additional resources you guys have mentioned. Thankyou.

Hey everyone, here is an update.

Despite people here telling us we can learn everything on bigger pockets or find someone who is willing to help us for free, we experienced the BEST education from our purchase from Legacy Education. Books, talking to people, and websites just cannot give you the depth and breadth of information that Legacy Education has provided. Plus, the networking we have done has been priceless. It led us to more trainings and ultimately found a very good mentor in Dallas who is helping us with marketing.

We've come to realize that if you are a newbie with little money and little access to money, RE is hard and requires investing in marketing. It is timely and it requires an ability to notice trends in the market so you can apply a strategy that will not be an entire waste of time.

We have not finished our first deal, but we now have multiple leads and also multiple strategies to apply to our leads.

I think we made the right decision, for sure. This confidence we have to do deals is priceless and it started from investing in a bit of this training. I wonder if those who passed it up are as confident in their decision as we are.

But note: This wouldn't be possible if we were not very engaged in networking with others. I think if we were not networkers and were doing this on our own, it wouldn't have been as positive of an experience we are having.

Also note: We also went to this company's training in stocks and have good things to say about that, too. The seminar experience with stocks was much much better than the experience with RE. I don't know who is in charge of the two departments, but whoever is doing stocks is a better leader than the RE leg of the business.

I am the girlfriend of OP. My biggest concern is making HUGE mistakes that we are unable to foresee. Do people just start this on their own with no mentorship?

For 51K you can make realy big mistakes (and learn from it), or you can hire a professional investor for one day a week for al whole year.

When you send that much money, I am still not sure you will learn anything from it. And after the course you also need money to start investing.

So why not jump in to the game.

Have a great day.

Because mistakes in real estate investing can mess up your taxes and even get you into legal issues... ... they are major mistakes....

@Jeff Geeseman

Yea, they did that to us, too and it was incredibly alarming and a major turn off...! I wonder how many more sales they would get if they would stop being ridiculous about it lol

NO!! I went to the three day seminar and after the hype up .... came home and wondered what am I able to do now. I did not want to invest the 20K plus money for the programs nor did I want to get a loan in order to attend the program. I found the Bigger Pockets site that night. A person sitting at the table with me did invest 20K and when I called her to see if she had invested in a property, no she had not nor had she moved any further than myself ...... I thought she would be holding a property in hand. This was after about six or seven months. Also, I emailed the BP site to two of the individuals including the person I mentioned above and neither had gone to the site. I simply paying off IRS and have been studying the books I purchased from BP and sitting in on the POD CAST.... I feel this is time well spent. Just my two dimes worth!

I guess you will find out if it is time well spent when you actually make a deal. I am noticing a pattern, however. The people we know who actually paid the full amount still have not landed any deals. One lady did e-mail me telling me she has bought a house and is looking for buyers, so she is ahead of the rest of us. I don't know if she purchased the whole 30-40k thing or just a portion like we did. But it depends on the person. Legacy Education gives you a to-do list of what to do day by day and I'm sure people do not actually follow it.

After meeting with some friends, we've come to realize that Legacy Education is not the only training service and it is more expensive than other ones out there.

Our friend uses a company called Freedom Investor Academy which has similar, detailed trainings for a cheaper cost than what legacy education offers. (however, I don't think they provide the done-for-you contracts and paper work that legacy does)

Another friend said she found "REI Club" which provides a mentor along with training for $800. Even cheaper!

We cannot attest to how these other companies are. We just didn't know about them. I would look into them before purchasing a class from any one. May ask our friends for a review later.

That is absolutely a terrible idea.  You might as well take that 16 - 51k and buy some real estate with that.  Any mistakes you're worried about will probably be a better lesson than you can pick up from a seminar.

If you want guidance, you have books, this forum and hopefully local real estate clubs where you can meet people that have experience. You both had enough motivation to attend one of these conferences so I'm sure attending a local REI would not be an issue.

That was what we were thinking with that price. That is why we negotiated to something that was affordable and for a class that was actionable for us right away rather than spending money to get a bunch of classes we will not even be able to take action on.

I disagree with you on the books. I have searched and paid for a couple of books and nothing has given the detail on whole-saling as the class we purchased through this company. If you happen to know of something that is good, let me know. But we didn't find it over the span of 3 days, so we opted to buy one of their classes.

We have been going to local REI meetups and it still doesn't offer the same kind of support as purchasing a completely done-for-you class gives. It really is nice to have all contracts and everything pre-written and knowing exactly what we need to do. I will update this thread when we make our first deal. This is all coming from the perspective of "I now know EXACTLY WHAT I need to do and we're marketing to be able to do it". Not buying the product would have been "We don't know exactly what we need to do and we're shooting in the dark trying to find a deal to 'learn' from." And I don't know how good the market is right now but I was afraid of finding just one or two deals, screwing them up, and not being able to find another one. Plus, mistakes made can have serious repercussions on your taxes and liability...

Think before you do. I attended the 3 days event in New York last week. I didn't sign up for the advance courses.

They told you they would offer you some discounts and let you join the online group which they created last day, if you sign up during the event, right?

Think about this way. If the program does worth it, what you will lose is only 299$ that you pay for the 3 days event. You can always attend the event again and pay 299$ for the discount. ( I believe you won't do it after you calm down and see the BiggerPockets website.) However, if you sign up for it, what you can lose will be 16K-51$ !!!!

Please be careful. Think before you do, and do some research. You can make the right decision.

That was our thought process and we ended up negotiating our price (so we did NOT pay 16 - 51K$$. We paid much less). They did make the facebook group, but it is not really active or useful. You have to meet people in person and form your own in person group.

So we have been using software ($2000) and the whole-saling class ($2,000) for about a month and a half. We also bought REI blackbook ($1,000) which creates the website, manages property information, and follow up with your clients.

We are very pleased with our purchase and the community we developed with the other people who attended the seminar.

The whole saling education gave us EXACTLY what to do STEP BY STEP to complete deals. They also provide the contracts and paperwork for you. We had our lawayers look the contracts over and they gave the contracts a nice green light!

The software is wonderful. I can see how someone who is NOT tech saavvy would feel overwhelmed or not know how to use it. But if you're decent with computers or you grew up with computers it shouldn't be a problem and it does exactly what it is advertised to do.

The website REI blackbook makes is beautiful and super fast and easy to make. I hate the video they have with it... its kinda cheesy and corny but oh well. We're just getting started maybe in the future we will ujpload our own video.

I have to say, this was well invested. I can't give you an ROI yet, but I can say that we were able to accomplish and learn more in 1 month thanks to Legacy Education than we had in 4 months of trying to piece-meal information from different websites and books and do everything ourselves. Not to mention, we were proactive in meeting people at the actual seminar so we have a community of people holding each other accountable and helping each other figure out what they are stuck on.

Very pleased. I know the seminar feels like a scam, but it isn't... you just have to USE what they GIVE you. You can't sit on it. You have to be an action-taker or you will have wasted your money. Also - we did not buy the 30,000$ package they were selling. We NEGOTIATED our price and only bought what we would use IMMEDIATELY. We're very pleased and have finally bought some bandit signs to begin our marketing process.

Updates to come. Much luck! xoxo

So, we created a group of people who purchased a package from Legacy Education. Learning from each other and such. I will update this thread when we finally make our first deal (which should pay us back for our investment). Then I will be able to say, as scam-y as this all was, its not one.
