@Joe Thanks for the response! Hawaii seems to be such a unique market a lot of the stuff I read or listen to might need exactly work out here. I will not be going after MLS deals at all. So far I am following some active Hawaii investors on Facebook/social media and learning as much as I can for now. Are you more into flipping or buy and hold?

@Michael No kidding about our expensive housing market. Did you see the recent article about median home prices hitting $700,000. Crazy. I'd imagine there could be some deals with a lot of meat out here with those kind of prices. I've already found some vacant looking properties in my area(Honolulu) so now just listening to podcasts and reading up on exactly what to do next in the wholesaling process. I'm envisioning my first deal to net me as much as my current annual salary. I wish!haha

Any active wholesalers out here in Hawaii? I know theres some flippers out here making huge returns on their work. Would love to get there one day. But my current path of entry looks to be wholesaling. Wanted to throw it out there and see if theres anyone out here in Hawaii with a sustainable business model strictly wholesaling. Mahalo!

Thank you all for the responses. I'll keep reading and learning as much as I can from these forums. I only know two things about the real estate market in Hawaii. #1 it's expensive. #2 it's expensive.lol

I don't mind relocating to become a successful real estate investor. You think that would be the best thing to do? Like Bryce Y. ^^ maybe get started somewhere in Texas then move back to Hawaii when I surpass my goal.

Aloha,

My name is Tyler from Hawaii. Randomly happened upon this site and spent the last three hours reading thru tons of threads. Lots of good information. Thanks to all who contribute, AND asking good "newbie" questions.

I'm a young father who has big dreams of providing a good life for my wife and kids. I've been reading a lot of personal finance, self help books, and my wife and I are almost debt free(should have our brand new car paid off this year), and are excited to start looking for our first home in the next two years.

Besides my full time job, and my wife working on our stay at home business, I want to become a successful real estate investor. Besides everything I've read on here, I have zero experience/knowledge with real estate investing.

HOWEVER, I have set a goal and actually wrote it down that I would be a millionaire in 5 years.(Something I picked up from the book Secrets of the Millionaire mind by T.Harv Ecker) I made this declaration to my wife and she said she'll support me in accomplishing this. Is 5 years to short of a time frame? Too unrealistic with all that is involved with this industry?

Any advice or words of wisdom would be appreciated!! Mahalo!
