@Matt Moreland

I completely understand that she couldn’t say one area is safer than another. She was being super short and seemed offended as if I was talking smack about her city. I had no idea it tied in with civil rights but that makes a lot of sense. I wish she would’ve just told me that.

I will definitely look into those maps, thank you so much!

@Chris Allen

Thank you! Ill keep an open mind, I think I just need better understanding of the area. I am a full time student an work so it can be difficult to find time to go check areas out. I’m working with a realtor but she hasn’t been any help in that aspect. I asked her where the “safer” and more “quiet” pockets where and she said it was a loaded question and to call the police department.

When looking at areas would you recommend talking to the police department? Or are there other ways of accurately assessing an area without physically being there?

Thank you!

@Chris Allen that is good to know. Ive known a couple people that had really rough times in Killeen. they probably had no idea what area they were moving to. I’ve driven through Killeen several times to look at areas but keep hearing conflicting opinions on certain areas. Are there any areas you would suggest to avoid? Not sure if that’s a trade secret or not, I am looking for duplex’s and single family homes.

Thank you I really appreciate the insight!

@Bryan Noth

That is not a bad idea, however I am very new to this. How would working with a partner work? Since I'm using an FHA would I then need to add them onto the FHA? Or would I drop the FHA and try for a conventional with both applicants? Please feel free to laugh if this is just dead wrong. I'm just trying to get a grasp of all the avenues available.

Thank you!

@Jordan Moorhead

I have looked into Killeen, the reason I avoid it is due to the murder rate and burglary's. If this was strictly an investment property I wouldn't mind buying in Killeen but since it's an FHA We would have to live there the full year. That being said If I found a good deal on a duplex there I would jump on it but overall haven't found anything to catch my eye.

Hey guys,

My wife and I are 24 years old and grew up in Austin TX. This city is way too expensive for us to even look for properties in. The best lender I've found approved is for a 120K FHA loan. We've been looking into temple and other surrounding areas but the competition is intense. We would prefer a MF property but would settle for SF. The biggest problem we face is not being able to move too far away because I'm approved based on my job. So looking about an hour to hour thirty outside of Austin. If you have any suggestions please don't hold back!

Thanks guys!
