@DJ Dawson Thanks for the advice! This is one of my plans to move forward with for my future with investing. I beleive, that right now seems like things are shifting in the industry and being an investor with a general contracting company as your own will put you at the top.

@Allen Li my opinion is, do not reward contractors. Figure the deadline you want and make it much shorter but seemingly able to be done on time if conditions are met. Then every day they are behind charge more or find another contractor and bill them. All of this will be per contract.

@Zach Kuhns Hi Zach, I am also new to investing and have been in the trade for 9 years. I found a partner that is like minded and started a construction businesses with the goal of networking through the business. But that was our personal preference for us. Keep in touch and let me know how things work with you. Good luck.

Newbie Investor here, Jeffrey Tripp, to get my name started on the forums. I am looking for some general advice and to get to know everyone on the forums.
I am currently working full time as a Commercial/ Industrial electrician. My partner and I got our business license to begin working as a general contractor with the intent of building a network that will help us on our end goal of our partnership. The end goal in mind is to invest in real estate and build a large portfolio, evolving the company into something more than just being a general contractor.

As an electrician, being in the trade and usually keeping a steady paycheck, you need to travel long distances every day. During an 8 month long job that was 2.5 hours one way, I carpooled with my foreman. During this time in 2014, my foreman bought a duplex and was house hacking his way to financial freedom. During the long drive to and from work, all he listened to were podcasts and an occasional book. At first, the only way to describe it, was that the listening was a bit awkward. Then they got interesting, and I heard bits and pieces of "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" , The Tim Ferris podcast & Bigger Pockets podcast. 4 years later, I bought Robert Kiyosaki’s book, "Rich Dad, Poor Dad". and listened to the BP podcast.

After listening to episode 300 on the Bigger Pockets podcast, Brandon Turner, David Greene & Joshua Dorkin have inspired me to finally move forward and ask for a new community to take me in. Lets grow together!
