Post: Who is James Altucher?

I recently conducted some search-engine researching when I came across the name of a one James Altucher ( www.jamesaltucher.com ) . After reading some of his posts I have become fascinated by his depth of research and seemingly powerful ability to sniff information -- however, I cannot help but be apprehensive as to the validity of the information provided (after all, this is search-engine research). I have a strong compulsion to email this James Altucher in regards to the path I am planning to take into the field of TLCs and Wholesale Deeds to see what he might have to say, but in turn I am wondering about his reputation from outside perspectives. Does anyone have an opinion on this subject?

Ok Mr Torres. I'm going to consider myself uniquely qualified to answer your concerns.

1) I am currently active duty military

2) I am an active in REI

3) Prior to being active duty I had a successful career in the 'rag' trade working for some of the best brands in the business ie Burberry and Bergdorf Goodman.

4) I was raised in my parents dress/suit factory

First, none of the deals in REI I have made required me to be in suit. Saying that however doesn't say I was dressed like a bum. My niche is buying SFH at the trustee auction. Clowns in suites at the auction never win bids - in fact they are generally spectators. It's usually the guys wearing work boots that win bids.

What's your niche?

If you plan on selling RE and being in front of potential clients then having a respectable suit is appropriate in my opinion.

If you plan on soliciting lenders, being appropriately dressed is important. However, being over dressed in a 'gansta' suite may put you directly into the clown category.

What you are wearing is always important but it comes hand in hand with all the other elements of doing business. Do you have the knowledge base? the network? the resources? the drive and commitment? do you have integrity? are you personable and can you carry yourself professionally? etc etc etc. the suit takes a back seat when you start considering all the elements.

However, owning a couple of nice suits is important for any gentlemen regardless of their career choice. If you want to spend a thousand bucks on suit go ahead.  But spending that kind of money on some threads is generally left best to the pro who wears a suit everyday and has the dough to update and replace it as the seasons and trends change. It's not necessary.

I am going to share with you a great secret - there is a tailor in Las Vegas who has had an amazing career as a clothier for the rich and famous. He has decided that he wants to give back to his community and particularly veterans and soldiers. He will custom make you a suit, throw in a shirt and tie for $100..that's right one hundred dollars. I have seen his work and its incredible. here is the link http://cnotesuit.com/ cnotesuit.com.

He only make suits at this price for soldiers and vets. goodluck.

This is a momentous insight. I am humbled by your depth of experience and willingness to share. I felt that I should probably begin with the wholesaling of real estate to investors garnered from deeds won via auctions. Tax and Liens looks promising, but the information I have looked into may be out of date.

Regardless, I will investigate your link immediately.

I will bear this in mind as I begin research for shoes. I should probably be modest as a newcomer, as wearing alligator skin shoes probably suggests success when I have yet to begin, not to mention the actual expenditure.

On a side note, im having some technical difficulties referring more than one person per post. Simply placing @ in front of the poster's name is not sufficient, and the Post Reply window does not appear to have said feature implemented. Can one elaborate?

"You dont get a second chance at a first impression"

-Anonymous (Presumably, Oscar Wilde...)

Being in the military has limited the necessity for research in civilian attire, but now that I am to commit to REI, it has become evident that I must bear a respectable appearance from the moment I step through the door -- any door.

Because my resources are limited, an all-purpose dressing is paramount. I am writing this topic to request advice on what kind of suit I should consider purchasing. Shirt, shoes, slacks, tie and suit, as well as what material type or brand of company would best suit my needs.

I am looking at a budget range of 1000 USD, however, this may be a poor choice of priority, considering that despite supporting social networking, attire does not actually invest in real estate. Of course, I am just a newcomer, so this is largely speculation, but I am well aware that the money I reserve for REI will deteriorate quickly once I begin to invest.

If I am in fact, mal-prioritizing, it is important that I understand where to begin before I spend a single dollar. I simply bring this issue up as it relates before even stepping into view.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

I will definitely look into it in person then, Mr. Melkonian. I felt I should inquire ahead of time as I am not in the physical area of San Diego due to work related issues, but I will definitely visit in person!

Oh, I did not think to look into meet-ups! That is an excellent decision, but I am just as much a newcomer to that site as I am to this one. Do you have any recommendations upon registration to the meet-ups site?

Greetings!

I am looking to commit to an Investment Club for the purposes of networking, mentorship, and possible partnership opportunities. Because I am a newcomer I am extremely concerned with the risk of perception (i.e looking like a 'customer' or 'competition' as opposed to being a 'prospectively mutual asset) that comes with being a newbie.

I am seeking information in regards to the most effectively beneficial investment club to commit with. However, due to the nature of my employment, I will not be able to leave the San Diego area until August. Because of this, I have been searching local areas to bide my time until I can freely roam towards the most beneficial groups.

In addition to seeking a supportive investment club, I have been investigating local (San Diego) clubs that could be worth looking into. I have come across the San Diego Investment Club (FIBI), and am wondering if anyone has any experience in dealing with this group. Are they reputable? Is it worth looking into?

Thank you for your time in reading this. I look foward to hearing feedback!

Greetings!

As a newcomer to both biggerpockets and the real estate business, I have decided that it may be within my best interests to join an 'Investment Club' (or Real Estate Investment Club, as it may be called). It is essential that I be perceived as a prospectively beneficial component -- not as a rube to be downplayed as competition or profit.

Due to my current state of employment, I will not be capable of freely relocating beyond the San Diego region until August. As such, I am seeking an investment club in the San Diego area and have come across the 'San Diego Investment Club FIBI'. I know nothing of this group but must find someone who knows if this is a trustworthy networking group to commit towards.

However, if it is absolutely essential that I abstain for a greater investment club, it is paramount that I understand which group this is and why. It is also essential that I understand the prerequisites to networking with these communities.

Thank you for your time in reading this. I sincerely look forward to any advice in this subject!

Post: Military Newcomer from San Diego, CA

Greetings!

My name is Jose Torres, and I am a newcomer who has become deeply intrigued by the prospective gain of Tax and Lien Certificates. It is my sincerest desire to achieve a prospective gain of 50,000 USD in the first two years of starting in this business venture.

However, my situation is substantially different from the average newcomer. I am serving as an active duty military member who is currently deployed outside the United States. This means I cannot physically investigate properties, attend seminars or network in person. To further complicate my situation, my hours are long and unpredictable, and my internet capabilities are limited.

They say time is money and that if you have both, you can turn a profit, but this appears to be an oversimplification. Without a physical presence in America and a limited internet connection, I fear I am incapable of garnering a foothold without being conned. I have come to this site under a referral in hopes that I will find a mutual beneficiary that I may work with until I ultimately return to the country.

I have made mistakes in the past that have cost me immense financial loss at the expense of my naievity. I cannot afford another case of gross ineptitude. Chief among these mistakes is trusting family and friends to take up the charge of doing footwork in my absence. I truly believe that I should be a writer, for the sheer creativity and volume of excuses I have recieved from (mis)trusted associates is without competition -- Everyone wants a piece of the pie, but when it comes time to put up or get out, everyone walks. Everyone. I hope this conundrum to end with my arrival to biggerpockets.com.

Thank you for your time in reading this. I look forward to reading any replies with anticipation.
