Thank you for your valued responses @Bill S. @Account Closed. Ultimately, my question was answered about education as an extension of BP. From what I gather, a general consensus is you can literally find everything needed for success here. It just takes a lot of time to sift through. At this point I have refined my investing niche/strategy to SFR, BUY and Hold with an end goal of Multi-Family, starting @ the duplex, triplex, quad, and then maybe commercial properties. I would like to talk to each of you more on your experiences/fails as you all have a vast array of knowledge.

Regards,Tony

Thanks, @Mindy Jensen your blog really shed some light on pertinent details. It was a real eye opener for the costs involved. I guess the real answer to the education question, is there is no definite answer. Meaning, this is relative to your specific path. I have seen online courses from MIT etc.. but, they seem to be very time consuming, and go into more detail than I think one would need. I want to engage in conversation but, don't want to be part of the newbie statistics if there was something I could do about it beyond disclosure. I will continue reading, listening to podcasts, watching webinars, and absorbing info in the forums.

Regards,Tony

@Andrew Johnson Thank you for your response to the question, I value any advice or suggestions, and never discard anyone's opinion regardless of experience. I feel that everyone knows something that someone else would like to know. When discussing subjects in general RE investing, should new investors have a basic over all foundation, this would keep the more knowledgeable from having to engage into the basics, and save those resources for truly challenging questions here on the site. If you were just getting started in RE, how would you go about educating yourself as an extension of BP basics in a timely manner?

Hello BP Members,

I was recently reading a thread by @Russell Brazil where the subject was, is BP setting unrealistic expectations. The subject generated many different perspectives aimed primarily at the newbie investor. The responses I should say was aimed primarily at the new investor. I as a newbie, understand this is not a get rich quick game, and as a general rule of life, anything worth doing is not easy nor for the weak hearted. The feedback as I perceived it, was most newbie investors lack the education needed to succeed in Real Estate. A statement was made that the biggest problem they saw was people commenting on something they know nothing about. This is why I try to always disclose in any comment that I may add that I am a new investor so, take it for what it is worth, and to try to attain an answer from an experienced investor. My question is, where to gain this education excluding a 20k price tag, and is formal Real Estate investing education per say, better than actionable Real Estate investing? Would becoming an RE agent give you a solid foundation to build upon?

Regards,Tony

Clayton Swansen You are not alone in your way of thinking as Stanley Parsley has stated. I am new to REI, and have often thought this way. I ask myself as a new investor what do I have to offer someone successful, for their knowledge. I like to help other people, I like to solve problems if I am knowledgeable on the subject, and that to me is repayment enough. That said, most here on BP are very generous, it's just getting over that hump to ask for it.

Zachary R Sink , I think you are on the right track of having a mortgage versus paying cash, as long as you have a decent mortgage rate. Most that I have read on BP suggests not having all of your capital tied to one deal. I personally would spread my capital through many assets instead of one.

Welcome to BP, @Tu Hoang you are in a great place to get educated in Real Estate. There are numerous ways to find deals, and what I have done in the past is compile a list of these methods as I become aware of them through the forums, podcasts, books etc.. Then I will research these various methods, and pick what is best suited for me. As far as financing is concerned, it would depend on the individuals finances. If your financing options are limited, you will have to be creative.
