I was referring to Brandon's suggestion in this thread, just suggesting that in order to find the type of property we are looking for we may need to market to absentee owners that don't currently have their properties listed on the MLS.

I took a look at the Dallas County Appraisal District website, but wasn't able to find a way to view a list of properties. It would only let me view information if I already had an address... http://www.dallascad.org/

One of the other suggestions was ListSource. http://www.listsource.com/

I entered in some filter criteria (absentee owner, Dallas County, MFR) and got 6500 leads at around $0.15 per lead. I didn't purchase the list, but if the MFR inventory in Dallas doesn't change, I may consider doing this as an alternative option.

Hey everyone! I know this post is pretty old, but I'm particularly interested in all of the topics here. I live in Dallas and am looking to purchase my first investment property, potentially a duplex as an owner occupant. I also would love to hear about y'all's experiences. Andrew Herrig , how is your property doing now? Any insight or experience you could share would be greatly appreciated.

James Mudd I am in a similar situation as well. I am a recent member to bigger pockets and have been checking the MLS listings in Dallas fairly regularly for a MFR and have yet to find a great deal for an owner occupant that is also in a decent area. I did find this posting that may be helpful in finding absentee owners. I may go with Brandon's recommendation to find a property that isn't off the market. http://www.biggerpockets.com/forums/87/topics/69742-how-to-get-free-absentee-owner-list

@Clint Kreider Thanks! Good luck to you as well, we will have to compare notes. Although it seems you have a little bit more experience under your belt. :-)

@Brandon Turner Thank you Brandon. I am already impressed with the BP community, everyone is so welcoming! That article is great, I definitely plan on applying those principles towards my first purchase.

@Janice Carter Thanks! Looking forward to getting involved.

Hey Everyone!

Dallas native here looking to make my first jump into real estate investing. I don't have any experience yet, but I am looking forward to learning and connecting with the community!

I am recently engaged and looking to purchase as a fist time home buyer with my fiance. After some research (and viewing Brandon Turner's blog posts), I became fascinated with purchasing a multifamily property as an owner occupant. Have someone else pay my mortgage? Winning!

I am very motivated person, but I just need a little help to get me going in the right direction. So... I figured joining this site would be the next step!

I look forward to networking and sharing with you all!

Have a great day,

Tim
