Terrible! We had two fraudulent bookings back to back and got no support. We stopped using them

How recent did this happen? How was it fraudulent?  Any details would help us understand how booking.com works with claims...

This was several years ago now. TThey would only give me back the commission they charged. Here's the red flags that we had missed when we were still fairly green:

This was several years ago now. TThey would only give me back the commission they charged. Here's the red flags that we had missed when we were still fairly green:

1) Credit card declined so they gave us a different card from their "sister"
2) Booked last minute
3) Locals
4) We had even asked for an ID so they sent a fake passport but the name was spelled slightly off
They had parties at the property and destroyed some things. Then when the real owner of the credit card number found the charge, they did a charge back. We had some decent guests too but not enough to risk it.

@Neil G. @Dillon Cook  I can help! We are in Sarasota and manage properties in Florida and Wisconsin.

Door County Wisconsin did great in 2020 but inventory is low. It's nice because it's surrounded by water and if people want to go there, they are willing to pay a premium because there is more demand than supply.

Our vacation markets did really well in drivable distances. Our Disney properties did ok but took a hit. Our urban properties took a bath. We ended up converting those to month to month furnished rentals.

We have properties that are doing extremely well and some that didn't do as great. It depends on the market. Airbnb and VRBO are about 50/50 bookings for us.

Properties in Door County, WI do well! Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg is an area of interest for me too.

Try contacting Real Joy Vacation Rentals. I know one of the owners and have been impressed.

Hi Daniel! There's a ton of great advice on these forums from folks like us who invest in and manage vacation rentals. If you're looking for free resources, searching the forums is a great route to go, searching YouTube, and Podcasts are helping as well. I also offer some tips on my FB page and website. I'll be doing a free webinar in a couple of weeks. If that's of interest to you, message me and I'll send you details.
