@Tanya F. It's all about those collaborations, especially in the green building market where investors/developers are few and far in between.. at least for now.

Leveraging government incentives like tax credits and grant funding is a must do - it's one of the only ways to rise above the currently high price point for "going green." Only once there's more of a critical mass will the tipping point make investing in this direction safer and more profitable.

That's great you have an alliance right now, I'm aware Madison, WI is a very liberal eco-conscious atmosphere so that really helps. That makes me imagine a National network - something more grassroots than LEED, something that connects owners, developers, and investors with this same cause and intention.

@Raymond Martinez Thank you. You're in Philly? I know there's many urban pop up farms/gardens (once this snow clears!) and talking with some of the people that run those is a great place to learn. I learned about greenhouse construction using recycled 2 liter bottles that way!

@Account Closed Thank you! I'll make sure to keep you posted :)

@J. Martin Thanks J great tips! I know the Bay area is pretty "forward thinking" as far as sustainable design. Have you seen that peculate into the housing industry at all? Things like permeable pavement, green roofs, solar installation or rain catchment/grey water systems being used?

@Dmitriy Fomichenko I appreciate the welcome and support!

@Brandon Turner Great advice and thank you for all your contributions to making this community as valuable as it is. Lovin the podcasts I'm always trying to put new people on!

Hello, Ciao, and Aloha to the Bigger Pockets community!

I have been learning SO much from the amazing content posted within this site, it's truly amazing, a hidden gem of all things Real Estate investing. So thank you to everyone that has contributed! I only intend on giving back over time. :)

I have experience as a sales agent renting and selling in NYC and I'm still a licensed RE agent. I've also helped a friend flip a few houses in Staten Island and Philadelphia. From acquisition, design, development, installation, management, marketing, and sales - just enough to get my feet wet and test the waters.

Music and ecologically responsible endeavors are my true passion, so I am seeking to bring them together in unique ways for the urban environment. The housing industry just wastes so much material, and the material put into new houses is quite toxic!

William McDonough is a TRUE INSPIRATION and I believe we should all be heading in this direction for the benefit of all. He's working on huge scales and designing 'Green' cities in China among other places. Check out his book "Cradle to Cradle" or see a TED talk he gives: http://www.ted.com/talks/william_mcdonough_on_cradle_to_cradle_design.html

As an example - Gotham Greens partnered with Whole Foods recently to open the first rooftop commercial greenhouse on top of a supermarket. This is also a partnership with NY State as they received grants to remediate the site before construction began. This is REAL ESTATE and there's plenty of money $$$ to be made in this 'Green' building sector! Just sayin ;)
